There isn't a bad time to visit the Peaks of Otter, but the fall is very special. There is a lodge there that has clean rooms and a great dining room. Deer are roaming the grounds and they have great walking trails.

You can take a bus most of the way to the top of the mountain and then walk the rest of the way up. There were otter swiming around the lake that we watched while eating in the lodge dining room. If you want to stay, check with them online as they are often full...
